QUANTITATIVE MARKERS OF RESEARCH PRODUCTIVITY: A STUDY ON AGRICULTURAL RESEARCHERS

Abstract

Agro-based economies, such as India, require highly productive (effective and efficient) scientific staff to maintain agricultural growth and development, enhance farmers' socio-economic conditions. The concern of the study is declining academic and research standards particularly in research institutions of India.Hencethe studies research productivity is crucial for academic success and for ranking and rating of higher educational institutions. Research Productivity is operationally defined as a comprehensive measure to generating number ofpublications, intellectual property rights secured, projects completed, e-content developed and consultancy delivered during the course of professional careerof an agricultural researcher.The purpose of this study was todetermine the quantitative markers associated with research productivity of agricultural researchers and to measure the research productivity of agricultural researchers using the index developed for the study. Thequantitative markersassociated with research productivityareviz., Publication, e- content, research projects, Intellectual Property Rights and Consultancy. With the help of research productivity indexdevelopedit was found that 79% of agricultural researchersarein category of low to medium level of research productivity.
