An Educational Assessment for A Mother of A Child with Diabetes
Abstract
Health education plays a vital role in the management plan of children with diabetes. This study describes how the developmental level and the learning style of a mother of a child with diabetes may influence the learning process. It also shows how an appropriate learning theory could be applied to guide the learning process. Piaget's Cognitive Stages of Development and Erikson's stages of psychosocial development have been used to assess the development level. Kolb's Experiential Learning Model, VARK model of Learning Styles, and Sperry's Theory have been utilized to assess the learning styles. Adult Learning Theory is appropriate to be used as the theoretical framework to guide an educational program for a mother of a child with diabetes. An effective educational program about diabetes must consider learners' developmental levels and learning styles. An appropriate learning theory should also guide it.
