Elements of Interprofessional Collaboration To Improve Patient Safety: a Systematic Review
Abstract
Background: The high number of patient safety incidents causes harm and harm to patients. To these conditions, interprofessional collaboration has become a movement for every profession in improving patient safety. The application of interprofessional collaboration elements is a determinant for health professionals in improving patient safety.
Objectives: This study aims to analyze the core elements in interprofessional collaboration to improve patient safety.
Method:We conducted a systematic and comprehensive review using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Data were collected from five databases (google scholar, PMC, PubMed, Scopus, and Science Direct). The articles included are five cross-sectional study designs, four Quantitative Studies, two Qualitative Theory studies and one Software development life cycle (SDLC) that meet the inclusion criteria.
Results: Of the 572 articles screened, 12 were included in this review. Cooperation, communication, role clarification, coordination, leadership, organizational culture and conflict resolution are important elements in improving patient safety.
Conclusion: Elements of interprofessional collaboration have a major influence in improving patient safety, are able to improve service quality, reduce complication and error rates, reduce length of stay and reduce mortality by implementing interprofessional collaboration elements. In addition, the element of interprofessional collaboration is also able to improve the attitude of health professionals in improving patient safety.
